About us
Kakita Initiative for Women's Development (KIWOD) is a non-profit organization led by women that was established in 2016. What began as an initiative by 75 women from various farmer savings groups in Katakwi has grown into a national organization that works in the subregions of Teso, West Nile, Acholi, and Lango.
The original women savings group consisted of young and old women aged 20 to 45, with 35% coming from various fields of experience and expertise such as social workers, project planners, management, community development, organizational psychology, health, information technology, and early child development, among others. Given our society's current unfriendly environment for youth, which includes abandonment, neglect, and exploitation, among other things, they have become marginalized and more vulnerable in the long run. We believe that women themselves have the best understanding of their own needs. The Women's Savings Group took the initiative on this platform to effect the desired change among women and other marginalized and vulnerable groups of people, such as women, orphans, and vulnerable children, by employing holistic approaches that have an impact on the target groups' lives. As a result, the Kakita Initiative for Women's Development (KIWOD) was born.
